The Mallos de Riglos they are geological formations that we are going to find in the province of Huesca. A unique and emblematic place that is formed by these great rocky forms and at its feet, the town of Riglos. Due to the erosion process they remain on one side of the mountain and in the form of stone walls.
Some walls that are more than 200 meters vertically. Each of these walls or these Mallos has its own name and has been the object of climbers. Those who see in them one of the perfect areas for practicing this type of sports. But not only that, but they leave us with impressive corners and hiking trails to consider. How to get to
Los Mallos de Riglos is located in the province of Huesca, about 45 kilometers northwest of the capital. Precisely, in the mountains that are called 'Pre-Pyrenees', because they are located further south. In addition, this area has lower heights than those that we will find in the Pyrenees themselves. But going back to the Mallos, you have to take the highway A-125 from Huesca and direction Pamplona. When you have passed a town called Ayerbe, look closely because a few kilometers later, there is a detour to the right that takes you along a very narrow road. It will be the entrance road to Riglos.

What are the Mallos de Riglos
As we have indicated, they are rocky-type formations. All of them have been the result of erosion, since it can leave us with a series of unique shapes. They were formed with Miocene sediments and thanks to the different geological processes, through the years, they were making the Mallos have some roofs, as well as narrowings or simply fissures that would give them great beauty.

Due to these details, it must be said that the Mallos de Riglos are divided into three groups that differentiate their size. But it is also that each of them has its own name. It is true that a place like this could not be without them. Among the large Mallos we will find: Firé or Mallo de las Ten, Piso, Puro, Castilla, Volaos, Cuchillo, FrechÃn, Visera and Mallo del Agua. For the little ones, the names are Colorado, ChinchÃn, Herrera, Magdalena, Cored, Carilla, Aguja Roja, Gómez Laguna and Capaz. We cannot forget the Paredón de los Buitres, the Massif d´os Fils, Peña Don Justo or Tornillo.
Circular route in the Mallos
There are several alternatives that we have in a place like this. But without a doubt, one of the best known excursions or routes is the circular one. In a couple of hours and a half, you will have done this route that leaves the same town to return to the starting point. In addition, you will not have any kind of problem because it is perfectly well signposted. If you take a car to Riglos, you can park it at some of the points at the entrance. Also you have parking in the central part, very close to where the tourist office is located.

Right from there, you will see how the sign indicates that it is your starting point. You will take a sloping street that will take you to a square. Once in it, you will take the path to the right that is known as 'Camino de Figonero'. This path will lead you to Hermitage of Santa Cruz. When we are closer to the Mallos, there is a path that goes to the west, where it is in Mallo Colorao. Do not miss the views that you leave behind, because they are well worth a few snapshots.

Undoubtedly, the viewpoints will be great protagonists on our tour. We continue climbing a little more until we find the so-called 'House of shepherds'. Although this area is known as Campo Roseta and it will take us to a new viewpoint, Espinable. From here, the route is already descending. You will see how the Mallo Fire, allows you to place yourself in a flatter area. There is a new path there and to the right, another viewpoint that you cannot miss. But you must return to the path, turn left and go down to the town. You don't have to worry, because all the trails are painted in color, marked with signs so you don't miss anything.

What to see near the Mallos de Riglos

It is another of the towns of great beauty that has the Mallos at its feet, the Peña Rueba at its back and of course, it is bathed by the Gállego river.
