El trepak is a Russian dance characterized by exhibiting enough strength and demanding to the dancers an enviable resistance. Musically, its variety overwhelms: maintaining the same perfectly recognizable rhythmic base, we can find this type of polkas with a Russian air, in other Celtic, country, French, Central-European types.
It has 4 beats (3 side steps and a pause that is marked by slightly raising the foot) and is the only ballroom dance that is not danced at ground level, but rather skips a bit. The air is happy and carefree. You can also dance in formation.
